SumTotal Introduces ToolBook 9.5 for Faster Learning Content Creation and Access Anytime, Anywhere

New support for Apple iPhone and iPod Touch and Streamlined Tools Expand Reach of Corporate Learning and Training

Mountain View, CA, September 9, 2008 — SumTotal® Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUMT), the market leader and global provider of talent development solutions, today introduced a new version of ToolBook, the leading solution for rapidly creating effective eLearning content. ToolBook® 9.5 provides everything companies and government agencies need to create engaging content, assessments and simulations that can be deployed anywhere, at anytime.

“Corporate learning is no longer limited to the classroom or even the campus, and for many companies and organizations, the most vital subject matter can change daily,” said Sanjay Dholakia, SVP and GM, Learning and Talent Development for SumTotal systems. “SumTotal’s newest version of ToolBook combines the most efficient tools for content creation with the most innovative and comprehensive delivery options to ensure that our customers can engage employees across geographies, time zones and devices.”

With ToolBook, SumTotal customers only need to learn one product to create all common types of learning formats – interactive content, assessments, quizzes and simulations. While other providers require customers to purchase and learn multiple products to create this same variety of content, SumTotal offers the most comprehensive and efficient creation methods on the market. ToolBook 9.5 is packed with new features to help create engaging content and the ability to reach users anytime, anywhere. Selected new features include:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint Import - Rapidly reuse existing PowerPoint content in ToolBook authoring projects or storyboard new learning using PowerPoint. This new feature makes it even easier to involve subject matter experts in content authoring projects, reducing the overall time to create learning and increasing ROI.
  • M-Learning with Apple iPhone Support - New support for Apple iPhone and iPod Touch deployment enables corporations to increase user access to learning and accommodate learning anytime, anywhere.
  • Expanded Browser Access including Apple Mac - Users can access ToolBook Web content using the Safari Web browser on an Apple Mac. With support for Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Mozilla, Firefox and now Safari – never before has a content authoring product allowed so many options for users to access learning content.
  • XML File Import - XML file import support speeds up the process of using content from other sources by easily converting content from databases or created by other tools into the ToolBook XML format.  After using the new ToolBook XML feature, content is automatically converted to the ToolBook format it is fully editable with ToolBook.
  • Audio Recording - Voice recording feature makes it easy to record a voiceover that plays when the learner enters the page.

“Using ToolBook from SumTotal, we can create and deploy customized training modules quickly, and allowing our employees to access the training modules online has saved us more than $250K in travel fees alone,” said Ian D. Minderman, M.Ed., Instructional Technologist, National Education and Policy Development, Humana, Inc. “ToolBook version 9.5 offers new features that will enhance our current programs, including the ability to import content directly from Microsoft PowerPoint and opportunities to expand mobile learning, which Humana sees as a key success factor for our leadership development programs.”
